Taylor Swift called off her second Rio de Janeiro show due to extreme heat after a tragic incident during her Eras Tour concert the previous evening. In a heartfelt Instagram post from her dressing room at the stadium, she emphasized the safety of her fans, crew, and fellow performers as the primary concern.
The circumstances surrounding the passing of 23-year-old fan Ana Clara Benevides Machado, who sought medical help during Friday’s show, remain undisclosed as Rio’s public prosecutor launches an investigation. Taylor expressed her deep sorrow, sharing that she had minimal information but was moved by Benevides’s youth and beauty.
According to the concert’s organizer, Time4Fun, medics initially attended to Benevides at the venue’s first-aid center before transferring her to a hospital, where she passed away an hour later.
The soaring apparent temperature, reaching an unprecedented 138°F in Rio on Friday, contributed to the decision to cancel the subsequent show. Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes expressed his dismay on social media, labeling the loss of the young woman’s life as unacceptable.
